What's A Pastor To Do

What is it that I really do? Do I golf, twitter (that's an online application), visit shut ins, pray all day, hang out with monks, read the bible, email?

As a the Lead Pastor of Church at the Falls many people would have different views of what it is I should be doing day in and day out. Many of the views are shaped by religious tradition. So what is it I am called to do? I Lead! That's what I do. I lead our church, our people, our vision. The vision must be protected and it's my job to make sure this ship stays on course. It's my job to make sure we have empowered leaders serving at Church at the Falls. It's my job to hear God's voice on what's next. It's my job to be on the front lines accessing our effectiveness. It's my job to keep the vision busters out of our church. It's my job protect this place at all costs. It's my job to lead when we need to change, to stop something, to update, to re-tool or to re-start a part of our ministry. It's my job to work with our leaders and walk this journey together. It's my job to lead by Christ-like example, even though I mess up.

Too often a leader gets pulled away from leading. He or she ends up doing other admirable tasks, but when leadership is left unattended things go haywire. Imagine a ships captain forgetting his job is to pilot his ship safely and he started cooking, cleaning, etc. These are all important jobs, but they aren't his job. He has been selected to lead the ship safely. In the same way I am the one who has been selected to lead and God has surrounded me with incredible people who are leading in their areas of talent. Thanks for the many who serve in your area of talent, because it frees me to lead. I want to lead well so that many lives are impacted for Christ. Pray that I lead well.

1 Peter 5:1-4 NLT
And now, a word to you who are elders in the churches. I, too, am an elder and a witness to the sufferings of Christ. And I, too, will share in his glory when he is revealed to the whole world. As a fellow elder, I appeal to you: Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. Don't lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example. And when the Great Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of never-ending glory and honor.
